China succeeds in mining combustible ice in South China Sea

18.05.2017 Almaty. May 18. KazTAG - China has mined combustible ice- hydrate of natural gas in the South China Sea, reports with a reference to the Central TV channel of China.
According to the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources of China, the samples have been mined from more than 1.2 km depth, 200 meters underwater well is located 285 km south-east from Hong-Kong. In 8 days of work 120 cu m of combustible ice have been mined which contain 99.5% of methane.
According to the representative of geological research department, the breakthrough is comparable to discovery of shale oil in the US.
He added the methods of energy use in the future will be transformed, while China has achieved "unprecedented" success in the area.
