Health Care Minister said expense of funds for in-patient departments "is unwise policy"

19.05.2017 Almaty. May 19. KazTAG - Yelzhan Birtanov, Health Care Minister, said expense of funds for in-patient clinics is "unwise policy".
"We only spend 3% of the expenses for health prophylactics, while this expense makes 20% in the states of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development. In other words, we reserve money for hard cases, when in-patient treatment is needed, but we do not invest into healthy living, it is unwise policy," said Birtanov.
The Minister said not much attention is given to the services which might replace in-patient services, whose share in the health care field makes 20%.
He said the correlation of state and private expenses in health care is not optimistic. In his words the private expenses of people (treatment in private clinics, abroad and etc) have been higher that state expenses in the past 5-6 years, in the total structure their proportion makes 40%, while according to OECD standards it shouldn't be over 20%.
