Astana. January 31. KazTAG- The Senate of Kazakhstani Parliament has ratified the convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea.
"The main regulations of the Convention: it prescribes the basic principles of coastal states at the sea, delimitation of national zones, jurisdiction and sovereignty, procedures for subsoil use, navigation, fishing, marine research, cooperation in the field of security, rational use of biological resources and protection of the marine environment," reads the report.
He added that according to the convention, settlement of the issues related to the Caspian Sea is in the competence of the Caspian states.
“The presence of ships under the flags of states not belonging to the Caspian five, as well as armed forces not belonging to the Caspian states, is not allowed in the Caspian Sea," reads the message.
According to the convention, the sea area is delimited by internal waters, territorial waters 15 miles wide, fishing zones 10 nautical miles wide.
