Astana. May 14. KazTAG - 20 Kazakhstani evacuees from Syria have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the activity of ISIS terror group, said Bakhytbek Rakhymberdiyev, head of NSC department.
"16 men and 4 woman were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the activity of ISIS terror group, they were transferred to the places of investigation of criminal cases and arrested. The remaining 55 women with children have been accommodated in a special adaptation center near Aktau for a period of about a month. Now they are under medical examination and quarantine," he said.
According to him, psychologists and theologians are also working with them; identity documents are being restored.
“They are being checked for involvement in terrorist activities. In the absence of obstacles at the end of the quarantine, they will be sent to the places of their residence, ” he said.
At the same time, he commented on the position of Kazakhstan regarding the return of its citizens from the zone of military conflicts.
“The public has a lot of questions about this operation, the most important ones are “ why it was necessary to return them from Syria, why it is impossible to close them from entering the country? ” First, we, as a state, fulfill our obligations and therefore return our citizens to their homeland. Secondly, we cannot leave the perpetrators abroad. Obviously, if these militants remain abroad, they will continue their terrorist activities against Kazakhstan. Every year we prevent several terrorist attacks by foreign terrorists. And here they are brought to justice. Thirdly, we save children," he said.
