"As of May 21, 47 people with suspicion of meningococcal infection addressed to infectious hospitals (adult and children's hospitals), 8 of them were children. To date, 15 laboratory-confirmed cases of meningococcal infection have been reported, in three cases the diagnosis is clinically indicated.Three cases have been lethal, including 2 cases among adults and 1 case among an organized child aged 5 years who attended a kindergarten," reads the report.
According to the Ministry of Health Care, 715 contact persons were identified on May 19, 613 of them were laboratory tested, 1 carrier of meningococcal infection was identified. The rest of the results of laboratory tests are in process.
"Analysis of the long-term incidence of meningococcal infection showed that in 2010 28 cases were registered with a definitive diagnosis, in 2011 - 44 cases, in 2012 - 23 cases, in 2013 - 49 cases, in 2014 - 36 cases, in 2015 - 66 cases, in 2016 - 16 cases. No cases were registered in 2017," reads the message.
