“In July, in the cities of Astana, Shymkent, Atyrau and Zhambyl regions, the National Security Committee, with the coordination of the prosecutor’s office and the assistance of the police, carried out measures to suppress the activities of religious radicals. Operatives detained and took into custody four citizens of Kazakhstan and one foreigner suspected of participating in terrorist activities, promoting terrorism, organizing extremist activities and recruiting people for these purposes,” said the report.
A large amount of religious extremist literature and other material evidence were confiscated from their places of residence.
“One of the suspects previously took part in hostilities on the territory of a foreign state, for which he was convicted in Kazakhstan. Information about regular use of “hard” drugs is being checked in respect of two more individuals.
