Abayev voiced his version of detention of journalist in Astana on Nauryz Meiramy

Astana. March 26. KazTAG - Journalist of Azattyq Svetlana Glushkova was detained at Nauryz Meiramy following an application addressed to police, said Dauren Abayev, Minister of Information and Public Development of Kazakhstan.
"The journalist of Azattyq was detained, as I know, following an application. I was told that she attacked somebody and this person wrote a statement to police. Any action needs a legal estimation. We have to ask the journalist what happened in reality. I do not see any problems with this," he said on the sidelines in the Government.
He added he heard about detention of people and attempts to hinder work of mass media at Nauryz Meiramy, however, he said he had not seen any video records.
"I heard about these materials. It is a simple thing, if you think that the actions are illegal, use the legal tools for this. We are ready to provide any support in this direction. I have not seen the video records, but I heard about them. Estimation must be given to any action. There is a legal base for this," he said.
As it was reported, dozens of people were detained in Astana and Almaty on March 21 and March 22. Among the detainees are journalists. It was reported that mass media workers were prevented from their work on the scenes of detention. Police detained about 20 people on March 21 in Astana who were protesting against renaming of the capital in Nur-Sultan without a referendum. People were detained in Almaty, the international organization "Reporters without frontiers" called the authorities of Kazakhstan to stop detention of journalists.
