"We need cities with millions of people. Science, culture, education develop in the cities with millions of people. They say that there will be 600 huge metropolis cities in the future and competition between them. People will want to live in such cities. It is more comfortable there. There will be all the infrastructure for children and adults. We have three such cities in the independent Kazakhstan now, Aktobe is next in a row, then probably Karaganda," he said.
He said "people are coming anyway, urbanization is underway".
He referred to the example of the US where only 2% of population live in the villages.
"They not only feed themselves, but also export agricultural products, 43% live in the villages in Kazakhstan, of them 20% work in the villages, others go to work in the cities. Thus, this question is important both politically and historically," said N. Nazarbayev commenting on the relocation of the administrative center in South Kazakhstan region to Turkestan.
