Almaty, Shymkent and 156 other populated areas under threat of mudslides
Astana. July 17. KazTAG - Almaty, Shymkent and another 156 settlements of Kazakhstan are under the threat of mudslides in Kazakhstan, indicates the state program of regional development until 2025.
“156 settlements in Almaty, East Kazakhstan, Zhambyl and Turkestan regions, as well as the cities of Almaty and Shymkent are under the threat of mudslides,” reads the report.
According to the developers of the state program, 617 mudslide dangerous areas and 306 landslide dangerous areas were identified in the state, more than 10 thousand objects and more than 60 thousand inhabitants fall into the zone of possible impact of mudslides and landslides.
“In addition, there are 599 avalanche-dangerous areas in the state, of which over 200 directly threaten over 200 different objects, 147 km of roads and 1 km of railways (East Kazakhstan region, Almaty region, Almaty), and also 4.9 thousand residents (Almaty - 3000, East Kazakhstan region - 964, Almaty region - 700, Turkestan region - 207, Zhambyl region - 4)," reads the report.
