Anti-tobacco coalition is against establishment of smoking zone at Almaty airport
Almaty. July 11. KazTAG - The anti-tobacco coalition is against establishment of smoking cabins at the airport of Almaty.
“The National Coalition “ For Kazakhstan free of smoke” disagrees with the decision to establish smoking zone on the territory of the Almaty International Airport,” reads the statement of the coalition addressed to Bolat Yerzhanov, director of Almaty International Airport JSC.
According to the anti-tobacco workers, the installation of the smoking zone adversely affects the international image of Almaty and contradicts the national policy of protecting public health in Kazakhstan.
"The smoking areas, even equipped with ventilation systems, do not protect people from the harmful effects of passive smoking: smoke inevitably seeps into non-smoking areas, and ventilation units cannot completely remove tobacco smoke. The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that there is no safe level of exposure to tobacco smoke, while ventilation systems and smoking areas do not provide effective protection against the deadly effects of passive smoke, ” reads the message.
