Arys inhabitants returning leaving Shymkent
Almaty. June 28. KazTAG - The inhabitants of Arys are leaving Shymkent, reports Oryrar.kz.
"The inhabitants of Arys are leaving Shymkent. Since early morning they have been departing from Shymkent. The first bus has left," reads the message.
"We are going home. Of course, we are afraid. But what can we do. Thanks to Shymkent and to all Kazakhstan," said Talgat Murat.
Two buses left at 6.00. Dozens of buses have been prepared.
On June 27 more than a hundred of Arys inhabitants evacuated to Shymkent blocked the road near Akmeshit mosque claiming a meeting with authorities. People said they were not getting any aid from the Government. They threatened to block the traffic on Tamerlan highway- one of the main city highways leading to the city mosque. Some people said they did not want to return to the damaged houses in Arys, they were claiming new housing and land areas in other settlements. Later the inhabitants of Arys gathered at the central square of Shymkent. The protestors declared about radiation in the city and refused to come back to semi-destructed town.
Umirzak Shukeyev, akim of the Turkestan region, said in the evening on June 27 that people would be transported to Arys on June 28.
