"I am calling people to give preference to the domestic production, to buy fresh poultry which is healthier and safer (than the refrigerated drumsticks from the US-KazTAG). Support of the local industry will provide work places, taxes," he said at the IV Central-Asian agro technological summit.
In his words, import is one of the main factors which hinders development of domestic production. He believes customs regime is also unfair.
"Poultry from the US is duty free, it was a term for accession of Kazakhstan in the WTO. Today the American drumsticks are cheaper. Americans prefer sirloin and wings. While drumsticks are not demanded, manufacturers export them to other states for the price which may be lower than the cost price. The cost price of domestic poultry is higher than the imported drumsticks from the US," he said.
