"The attack on the man was provoked by the persecution of the teddy bear and his protection, thus, the bear mother will not be shot," reads the statement.
The tragedy occurred on May 30, 2020 at 6.25 in the mountains of the Alakol district of the Almaty region.
"The bear attacked a man born in 1979, a citizen of Russia," reads the report.
“According to the witnesses the deceased man was a native of the village of Lepsinsk, where he came to rest with relatives. On May 28, together with three acquaintances, on horses, accompanied by a dog of the Laika breed, he went to the Lepsy river for fishing. On May 30, on the way home the dog, smelling a teddy bear rushed in pursuit. Thinking that she was chasing a badger the man followed her by horse. Running into the thickets of rose hips and trees, the dog suddenly whined loudly. The man went in the thicket to help the dog. After a while, his friends heard him screaming. Suddenly a bear appeared, it scared the horses and people and ran back to the forest. In the thickets, the friends of the deceased man found his body with multiple fractures and wounds with no signs of life, the dog also suffered, but not seriously, ”said Kuat Ospanov, head of the Alakol ROP.
