Center of remote space communications to be opened in Chile
Almaty. January 8. KazTAG - The center for remote space communications will be opened in Chile, reports Izvestiya.
“Russia plans to open a center for remote space communications in the Republic of Chile,” declared the Special Design Bureau of the Moscow Energy Institute.
The center Yuzhniy will be created on the basis of the Chilean observatory "Cerro El Roble" as part of the "modernization of the ground complex control facilities for long-range space vehicles." In addition, Russian centers will be improved in Kalyazin, Shkolniy, Medvezhiy Ozeraa, Tsiolkovsky, as well as in Baikonur.
The observatory in Chile, on Mount El Roble, 70 km north of Santiago, was built in 1968 as an expedition by the Pulkovo Observatory. Five years later, Soviet scientists left the country. Later in the 2000s, Russian and Chilean experts agreed to resume work in this institution.
