Court in Almaty considering appeal on release on parole of Sarsenbayev murderer

Almaty. August 6. KazTAG - The court of Turksibskiy district of Almaty is considering an appeal on release on parole of Vitaliy Miroshnikov, convicted for murdering Altynbek Sarsenbayev.
Attorney for human rights Marzhan Aspandiyarova and brother of Altynbek Sarsenbayev- Rysbek Sarsenbay have filed a motion to challenge judge Zhanat Zhylkybayeva,  which was further rejected.
Miroshnikov participated in the court’s meeting via a video conference, M. Aspandiyarova demanded to bring him to the court due to the poor sound quality via the video link.
In turn, R. Sarsenbay was outraged that he had learned about the court hearing just two hours before it started, and the relatives of  other victims had not been notified at all.
The bodies of Altynbek Sarsenbayev, his driver Vasily Zhuravlev and security guard Bauyryzhan Baibosyn were found with gunshot wounds on February 13, 2006, at 11.40 in the Talgar district of the Almaty region between the village of  Koktobe and 12 brigade village on the side of a country road .
Yerzhan Utembayev, head of the Senate office was arrested on February 25, who confessed murdering Sarsenbayev on March 2.
Utembayev, as the main contractor of the triple murder, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. In 2014, the sentence was reviewed and reduced to 13 years. In 2018, Utembayev died.
The perpetrator of the murder, Rustam Ibragimov, was sentenced to capital punishment, which was not executed in connection with the moratorium on the death penalty in Kazakhstan. Miroshnikov was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
