EC President calls to EU army creation
Almaty. March 10. KazTAG -Jean-Claude- Juncker, President of the European Commission, has called to create a common European army to counteract Russia, reports rbc.ru with a reference to Welt am Sonntag.
In his opinion, with such an army the European Union will be able to respond the threat to EU member states and the neighboring states. He added, this way Europe will let Russia understand that "we seriously protect the values of the European Union".
Norbert Rettgen, chairman of committee on foreign affairs of Bundestag supports the initiative. In his opinion the European states spend much money on the national armies maintenance, while the military capacities of EU member states are still insufficient in comparison to Russia.
Previously, Ursula von der Leyen, Minister of Defense of Germany declared that transfer of the national sovereignty to Brussels in the military issues is expedient and in the near future the EU will need to establish the own army.
In her opinion the common European military forces will strengthen European policy in the field of security in the light of crisis, like in Ukraine.
