The wastewater treatment facilities of the city of Konayev were put into operation in 1968, and at present all these buildings and structures are 100% worn out. If the water in Kapshagay and downstream to the Lake of Balkhash is polluted, this will lead to a large-scale environmental disaster. In the current situation on the territory of the city of Konayev, an emergency situation of a man-made nature on a local scale has been declared. I consider it necessary to allocate funds for the reconstruction of city treatment facilities as soon as possible,” Zhorgenbaev said.
He pointed out that the Kapshagay reservoir is a source of drinking water for the inhabitants of the region.
