Ex-president of Kyrgyzstan Atambayev faces new charges following events in Koy-Tash
Almaty. August 13. KazTAG - Ex-president of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev has been charged in connection with investigation of the criminal cases following the events in Koy-Tash on August 7-8, KyrTAG reports.
“Today, the charges have been brought against Atambayev. As the organizer, Atambayev has been charged with a number of crimes stipulated by the articles of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan - “Threat or violence against a representative of the authorities”, “Obstruction of the activities of the prosecutor, investigator, authorized official of inquiry body”, “Mass riots”, “Murder”, “Murder attempt", " Hostage-taking," "Illegal weapons trafficking", said Otkurbek Dzhamshitov, Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan.
He also stressed that the criminal investigation into the events of August 7-8 in Koy-Tash is under the personal control of President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov.
The Prosecutor General confirmed that Atambayev’s property was seized; the list of arrested property consists of 120 items.
