Ex-senator of Kazakhstan on youth quota on party lists: Don't turn Parliament into kindergarten

Astana. February 10. KazTAG - Don’t turn the Parliament into a kindergarten, said Serik Akylbay, chairman of the public council of the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan.
"I worked as a judge, as a senator. My colleagues raised the correct question, people with life experience and skills must work in the Majilis and Senate. For instance, judges are elected from the age of 35 now. It is European, world practice. Why people are focused on 29, it is unclear. Deputies must have wise experience, able to work. A man aged 29 will come to Majilis and start meeting people. I cannot say that it is good. I met people and I know which questions they ask. I have big experience; still I cannot answer some questions. In the age of 29 a person has not seen the life. Don't turn the legislative body into a kindergarten," he said.
