Failure of gear extension system caused emergency landing of SCAT plane in Astana

Almaty. April 7. KazTAG - Emergency landing of Boeing 737 of SCAT company en route Shymkent-Astana was caused by failure of gear extension system, said Viktoriya Ulyanova, press-secretary of the company.

"The system signalizing of nose gear extension did not activate. The wheels went out, but the signalization did not activate," she said to KazTAG.

According to the security technique the crew had to inform about emergency landing.

In her words, the reason of the signalization failure might have been bad weather conditions while taking off in Shymkent.

"Probably bad weather caused the failure while taking off in Shymkent. There was strong rain turning into storm in Shymkent," she said.

She added investigation will be conducted.

According to the message of the air company, Boeing-737 had an emergency landing in Astana airport on April 7 at 10.57 en route Shymkent-Astana.

According to the schedule the flight was supposed to arrive at 09.25, but due to the technical failure the plane landed 1.23 hour later.

"The airport services were brought to readiness. The runway was covered with foam to prevent fire," reads the message.

There were 5 crew members aboard and 89 passengers. Nobody was injured.

The airport was closed from 09.34 until 10.57, four departing and three arriving flights have been delayed.

The plane successfully landed in Astana airport.
