"The State Committee for National Security has detained Mukhammedkaly Abylgazyiev, former Prime Minister ," reads the statement.
On January 26, Abylgaziyev was summoned for interrogation to the State Committee for National Security, which followed by his detention.
"He is charged with illegal enrichment. A criminal case could be initiated against Abylgaziyev in connection with the latest agreements on the development of the Kumtor field, ” said the report.
Abylgaziyev served as prime minister in 2018-2020 and resigned on June 15, 2020 amid a scandal over the sale of radio frequencies.
