Full cycle of nuclear fuel planned to be created in Kazakhstan until 2030
Astana. May 28. KazTAG - A full cycle of uranium processing into nuclear fuel and energy production from it is planned to be created in Kazakhstan until 2030, said Aset Isekeshev, Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Industry and New Technologies.
"Kazakhstan is a leader on uranium production in the world, we produced 22 500 tons in 2013. One of the goals of the branch which is in the concept (of development of fuel-energy complex until 2030-KazTAG) - is creation of full nuclear-fuel cycle," he said.
In his words "unfortunately Kazakhstan is producing only uranium as crude product in this field and also non high processing".
"We have no important processing such as enrichment, production of fuel assembly and construction of atomic stations. Thus, introduction of new elements of nuclear fuel cycle will let us produce highly technological products, provide diversification on markets and products," he said.
