General Prosecutor's Office requested to investigate cause of fish mortality in the Ural river

Astana. March 13. KazTAG - Majilis deputies have addressed to Kairat Kozhamzharov, Prosecutor General, with a request to personally control the investigation of mass fish mortality in the Ural river.
"Our deputy request concerns numerous cases of mass fish mortality in the volume of over a hundred tons of sturgeons in the Atyrau region in the reservoirs of Ural-Caspian basin. Certain people caused each problem, they have names and duties. We ask you to control the investigation personally," said Artur Platonov, Majilis deputy at the plenary sessions.
He reminded the deputies had applied to the Government, but no clear reasons for the situation have been revealed.
He added there is a need to clear the river from dead fish to avoid larger damage to the ecological system.
"In addition, there is no guarantee that people will not suffer from eating the fish sold by unfair sellers. On the base of lab tests it was concluded that toxic impact of ammonia caused the mass fish death, but it is just one of the versions," he said.
