“According to investigators, they took part in the propaganda of terrorism, incitement of religious hatred and recruitment of individuals for the purpose of organizing terrorist activities,” reads the report.
The National Security Committee, police and the prosecutor’s office held a number of events in Astana, Almaty and West Kazakhstan regions in July and August. As a result, five citizens of Kazakhstan were taken into custody. Weapons, ammunition, religious literature and other material evidence were seized during searches at their places of residence.
"Two of the suspects had convictions for murder, robbery and hooliganism. Another had previously undergone training in foreign terrorist camps and participated in combat operations on the territory of a foreign state," reads the statement.
