"The wonderful historic district is threatened to be demolished and a multi-storey building may be built on its place. This quarter is located between the streets of Auezov -Bukhar Zhirau-Manas-Zhandosov and includes two-quarters of multi-storey buildings. The quarter gives an atmosphere of old Almaty. It is an island of peace in the growing city," said the inhabitants of the quarter.
They marked that the houses are located in the line of a geological crack and construction of tall buildings is dangerous.
"Our houses are not so shabby. They are located on the map of high seismicity - 9 points, i.e. buildings higher than four floors cannot be constructed here. But for some reasons BI-Group decided that this land belongs to them, we urge the administration of Almaty to clarify on the situation, how could it happen? They drew pictures with towering buildings of 17 floors. Don't the architects and constructors of this company know about the crack?" said the inhabitants.
The local inhabitants said the majority of the houses were repaired, while the brick walls 60 cm in width are in perfect condition.
