Introduction of a single currency in EAEU is out of question - Sagintayev

Almaty. February 6. KazTAG - There is no question of introducing a single currency in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), said Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Minister for Economy and Financial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
“In all our basic documents, this issue is out of question. We are only working on the issue of harmonization of legislation in the financial market. Within the framework of cooptation in EEC, the issue of introducing a single currency is not on the agenda,” said Sagintayev.
By 2025 the EAEU member states intend to create a common financial market.
“In other words, uniform rules will be formed in the EAEU states in the banking, exchange and insurance sectors. Practical work in this direction has been carried out since the establishment in 2012 of the EEC, a single supranational regulatory body of the union,” reads the report.
The issue of forming a common financial market comes from the union agreement, according to which by 2025 the member states must form a common financial market of the EAEU countries.
