Italian Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo win votes to host winter Olympic Games-2026

Astana. June 25. KazTAG - Italian Milan and Cortina-d’Ampezzo have won the right to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2026, reports the press service of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Kazakhstan.
“Italian Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo have won the right to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2026. This was announced at the 134th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne (Switzerland),  where  IOC members voted. In the race for the right to host the Olympics, the Italian cities bypassed the Swedish bid, which was represented by Stockholm and Åre. (...) The Italian bid received 47 votes against 34 from Sweden," reads the report.
“Initially, seven cities filed their bids, but only two reached the final stage in the race for the Olympic capital. The rest of the race did not find the support of their people in a referendum. Finally, Canada (Calgary), Austria (Innsbruck), Switzerland (Sion) withdrew their candidacies," reads the message.
Opening of the Olympic Games-2026 is scheduled for February 6. It will be held at the stadium "San Siro" and  end on February 22. The Paralympics will be held from March 6 to 15.
