Kazakhstan considering construction of grain terminal at border of Turkmenistan and Iran
Astana. April 23. KazTAG - Kazakhstan is considering construction of grain terminal at the border of Turkmenistan and Iran, said Nurbek Dairbekov, managing and commercial director of the Food Corporation.
"We plan to consider construction of a grain terminal at the border of Turkmenistan and Iran which will boost deliveries. The Food Corporation is also considering development of grain terminals in the eastern direction- towards China. It will stabilize and increase export volumes to China and distant foreign states," he said.
In his words, currently a number of grain terminals in the state and private property are available for Kazakhstan. They are located on the coast of the Caspian Sea-in the ports of Aktau, Baku, Amirabad port in Iran, on the coast of the Baltic Sea- Ventspils port. There are a number of grain terminals in the Azov sea.
Meanwhile, according to the representative of Food Corporation, grain export to distant foreign states has been decreasing.
"What is the reason for that? Today Kazakhstan finds new niches and diversifies grain flows to those states which I have mentioned. Due to this we faced reduction of grain export to the EU states, Turkey and other distant foreign states, " he said.
He referred to an example of Iran "which has been a traditional importer of Kazakhstani grain in the past 10 years".
