Kazakhstan produces only 10% of necessary medicines - Ashimbayev

Astana. April 26. KazTAG – Kazakhstan produces only 10% of the necessary medicines, said Maulen Ashimbayev , Senate Speaker.
“In our market of medicines, the share of domestic manufacturers today makes 10%,” Ashimbaev said in the Senate, in conclusion to the discussion of the issue of ratifying the agreement on cooperation of the CIS member states in preventing and responding to public health emergencies of a sanitary and epidemiological nature.
According to the standards of the World Health Organization, the share of domestic production of drugs on the market, to ensure national security, is supposed to be at least 30%.
“To reach at least the standard 30%, we still need to work a lot. At the same time, we see a decreasing trend,” he added.
Kazakhstan's production of basic pharmaceutical products last year, compared to 2022, decreased by 10%. Exports of medicines decreased by 28.5%. Imports increased by 3.5%.
