Kazakhstan spent T32 billion on scientific projects and 90% projects failed

Astana. August 15. KazTAG – Since 2016, Kazakhstan has spent about T32 billion on financing 145 scientific projects, but 90% of the projects did not achieve their goals, reports the anti-corruption agency.
“Since 2016, the government has spent about T32 billion on these purposes (science financing – KazTAG), of which 90% of the projects – 130 out of 145 – did not achieve their stated goals, which are unproductive initiatives. Moreover, 70% of the research was completed by writing articles and books, many developments had no practical value,” reads the report.
The Institute of Information and Computing Technologies spent T290 million on developing equipment for the production of biogas and biofertilizers, while ready-made analogues are available on the market at tens of times cheaper.
Also, the tender documentation for the selection of projects was formed for specific individuals, the projects were assessed by affiliated experts selected in a "manual mode". Of the 13.5 thousand experts on the list, about 10 thousand did not conduct an examination.
