Kazakhstani climbers could die falling into crack in Tian-Shan
Almaty. August 26. KazTAG -Kazakhstani climbers could die falling into a deep crack in Tian-Shan, said Kazbek Valiyev, general secretary of the Mountaineering and Climbing Federation of Kazakhstan.
“There are millions of cracks several hundred meters long. Therefore, most likely, I have to admit that there was an avalanche and they fell either to the right or to the left and, apparently, died in a crack, which was covered with tons of snow and ice. It can take 100 years of search in the cracks. Moreover, people who would search there would face exactly the same risk - to be permanently sealed in the same crack. It is absolutely hopeless. It’s like to look for a needle in crater on the moon. Unfortunately, this is high altitude mountain climbing, which is very dangerous," he said.
According to him, the facts confirm this assumption.
“The facts speak precisely of this, that Andrey (Korneyev - KazTAG) reported that they left Sasha Chechurin at 6900 meters height because he died in a snow cave, because it was no longer possible to put up a tent and they had got into an avalanche 2-3 times, they said there was fog and snowfall, they did not know their location and there were huge cracks in front of them. As a climber who twice walked the traverse of the Victory Peak, I know that this is the end. Just death on these slopes," he added.
