Less fires occurred in 2018 but left more victims - MIA

Astana. February 5. KazTAG - The number of fires decreased in Kazakhstan in 2018, however, the number of victims increased, said Yuriy Ilyin, Deputy Minister of Interior affairs.
"As for the situation in the state: the number of fires decreased in 2018-14 567, which was 6% less than in 2017, 434 people died, the number increased by 19% in comparison to 2017, when 352 people died," he said.
In his words, 412 people suffered in fires last year, against 464 in 2017, the material damage amounted to over 3.5 bn tenge.
“ 116 people died in fires in the current heating season, 111 people were injured. As a result of carbon monoxide poisoning without fire, 39 people were killed and 128 were injured. Compared with the same period last year, the number of fatalities decreased in comparison to previous year, the number of injured people has also decreased. But we have seen an increase in death toll in carbon monoxide poisoning by 12%. The reason is, first of all, improper use of furnace heating," he said.
