Majilis approved agreement ratification on extradition with Ukraine
Astana. September 18. KazTAG - The Majilis deputies have endorsed the draft law "On agreement ratification between Kazakhstan and Ukraine on extradition".
"Today the extradition issues are regulated by the Minsk convention which bans conclusion of bilateral agreements. In addition, Ukraine is withdrawing from the CIS, thus there is a need of such an agreement," said Murat Akhmetzhanov, deputy prosecutor general of Kazakhstan at the plenary session of Majilis.
He said the agreement has been developed on the base of standard agreements which Kazakhstan has with 21 states and plans to sign with Malaysia, Greece and Cyprus.
"The agreement is liable to ratification as it directly affects the rights and freedom of people. Adoption of the bill will not cause any negative social, political or economic consequences. Funds have been allocated for extradition issues from the budget of 2019, so no additional expenses are needed," he said.
