“On July 15, 2024, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF International) to implement the program for the reintroduction of the tiger to the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the statement said.
It is reported that on June 27, 2024, a cooperation agreement was signed in the Netherlands between the Forestry and Wildlife Committee of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the special center for feline predators Stichting Leeuw at the Landgoed Hoenderdaell Zoo and a donation agreement for two Amur tigers (male and female). Resettlement to the Ile-Balkhash State Nature Reserve is planned for autumn 2024.
It is noted that of all the subspecies of tigers, only the Amur and Turanian are adapted to living in real winter conditions and therefore the use of Amur tigers for reintroduction in Kazakhstan will facilitate the process of adaptation to new environmental conditions.
