Minister of Information disapproves compulsory newspapers subscription

Astana. December 10. KazTAG - Dauren Abayev, Minister of Information and Communications, said he disapproves of compulsory newspaper subscription, including for teachers.
"I disapprove compulsory subscription. We must create conditions for development of domestic mass media. What does it mean? So that people could buy a newspaper. We must create conditions for good content, for interesting content. I encourage only voluntary subscription," he said.
He marked newspapers are still popular.
"I think newspapers will not lose their popularity. Newspaper reading is deeper, smarter, one research has shown: online articles are read swiftly within 40 seconds, a newspaper article is reading takes 10 times longer. It means that advertisers tend to give preference to printed media. Newspapers need to look for their niche, to make an analysis," he said.
