More than 16% of prisoners study in prisons in Kazakhstan

Astana. October 19. KazTAG - More than 16% of prisoners study in prisons in Kazakhstan, said Zhanat Eshmagambetov, chairman of the penal system committee  of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“The UIS system has created all the conditions for obtaining general and vocational secondary education: there are 50 general education schools, in which more than 2 thousand people study annually. On the basis of vocational secondary educational institutions, about 3 thousand people are being eduated< ”Eshmagambetov said at a briefing on the activities of the penal system on Monday.
Institutions of the UIS closely cooperate, according to him, with public monitoring commissions and an independent national preventive mechanism, which include public figures, lawyers, doctors, social workers, human rights activists.
“The members of these commissions made about 500 visits to correctional institutions. They monitor the conditions in prisons," he added.
