According to South Korean military officials, the missiles fell into the sea after flying approximately 490 km. This action is considered as a sign of protest against the annual military exercises between South Korea and the US, which are supposed to begin in a few hours. Pyongyang has strengthened its rhetoric against the exercises, saying that Washington and Seoul should be treated as objects of "merciless blows".
