NSC confirms sentence of Syroyezhkin to 10 years imprisonment
Astana. October 11. KazTAG - The National Security Committee has confirmed sentence of well-known Chinologist Konstantin Syroyezhkin to 10 years.
"Konstantin Syroyezhkin, born in 1956, was adjudged guilty by the specialized inter-district court of Almay under p.1-6 Art.175 (treason) and sentenced 10 years imprisonment on October 7 2019," said the press-service.
Central Asia reported on May 4 about detention of Syroyezhkin presumably suspected of espionage.
According to the messages, the expert worked in Kazakhstan for a long time and was considered as a leading Chinese specialist. Syroyezhkin was the main scientific consultant of PhD thesis of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan.
It was reported on May 5 that Syroyezhkin hadn't been in touch since February.
Later KazTAG reported that Syroyezhkin got the citizenship of Russia in 2005.
