Number of states filed applications for SCO accession
Almaty. August 15. KazTAG - A number of states have filed their applications for accession in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, said Bakhtier Khakimov, special representative of President of Russia on SCO affairs, ambassador at large of Russian MFA.
"We have received applications from Israel, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and a number of other states which aspire to join the SCO activity," RIA Novosti cites the diplomat.
SCO was established in 2001, its target is to strengthen mutual trust, friendship, neighborliness, encouragement of effective cooperation in political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres. SCO member states are India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan; the observers are Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia; partners on SCO dialogue are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri-Lanka.
