“Friends, by a unanimous decision of the representatives of the Paralympic federations, I was elected to the position of president of the National Paralympic Committee,” Boranbaev wrote on his page on the social network.
This is the oligarch’s second re-election as head of the committee, which he headed in 2016. The first re-election was in February 2020.
Boranbaev was sentenced to eight years in prison on March 31, 2023. On September 14, the financial monitoring agency reported that Boranbaev returned assets worth T120 billion to the state. On September 15, the businessman’s prison term was reduced to six years in prison. On October 14, KazTAG reported that 100% of the shares of the oil company JSC Phystech II in the Mangistau region, which is associated with Boranbaev, were donated to the state.
On May 22, it was reported that a criminal case was being investigated against Boranbaev under two more articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
