Pike perch fillets worth over T200 billion smuggled from Kazakhstan to European Union

Astana. August 5. KazTAG – Pike perch fillets worth over T200 billion were smuggled from Kazakhstan to the European Union, reports  the press service of the Financial Monitoring Agency.
“Over 60 tons of fish products worth over T200 million were illegally exported from Kazakhstan. The AFM has completed an investigation into the smuggling of fish products “pike perch fillets” on an especially large scale. The investigation discovered that between October 2021 and September 2022, the head of the legal entity purchased illegally caught fish, which he subsequently exported to EU countries,” said the report.
At the same time, to obtain permits for export, forged documents were used on the origin of the fish from a farm that did not have the ability to artificially breed pike perch.
