Zhanbolat Mamay was supposed to be released on March 12 after being held under administrative arrest, but this did not happen. It turned out that he was already recognized as a suspect in a criminal case, the politician is charged with insulting a representative of the authorities and spreading deliberately false information. According to one of the charges, the victims are Almaty police officers. Mamay’s supporters consider his criminal prosecution to be politically motivated and went on a hunger strike near the building of the Almaty Police Department.
