Prosecutor requests 10-year sentence for ex-head of Almaty airport

Almaty. November 28. KazTAG - The prosecutor has requested a 10-year sentence for Aybol Bekmukhambetov , former president of Almaty International Airport, reports BES.Media.
“The main trial in the case of the former president of Almaty International Airport, Aybol Bekmukhambetov, has ended in Almaty. The investigation lasted for almost five years. Together with the ex-president of the airport, Kuanysh Tumyshev, head of the airport's aviation fuel and lubricants service, is in the dock. They are accused under paragraph 2 of part 4 of article 189 (misappropriation or embezzlement of entrusted property of others) of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan. During the debate, the state prosecutor requested for each defendant 10 years of imprisonment in a medium-security penal institution and to cancel the preventive measure in the form of bail,” said the statement.
The prosecutor also asked to issue a private ruling to the Department of the National Security Committee of Almaty, which was conducting the investigation, due to significant “shortcomings” identified during the court hearings, such as violations of the interrogation language and errors in documents.
According to the prosecutor, during the criminal prosecution, information about the criminal origin of the property was not established. He asked that no additional punishment in the form of confiscation of property be imposed on the defendants.
