Residents of Eastern Ukraine claim to conduct referendum on status of their regions
Almaty. April 7. KazTAG - The residents of eastern Ukraine are claiming to conduct a referendum on the status of their regions, reports the Unian news agency.
"About 2000 separatists have gathered at the Lenin square in the center of Donetsk on Sunday, April 6, to declare about the necessity of federalization of Ukraine and withdrawal of Donetsk region from the consistence of the unitary state," reads the report.
After the meeting at the Lenin square the protesters moved to the building of Donetsk state administration. They attacked the police officers guarding the building. They threw a bombshell in the window of the administration and entered the building. Pro-Russian separatists installed the flags of Russia on the building.
"After the capture they delivered an ultimatum to the local authorities. They read a resolution claiming to call a session of Donetsk regional council and conduct a referendum on accession into Russia," reads the message.
