Russian and NATO diplomats discussed ways to de-escalate “current tension”

Almaty. June 1. KazTAG - The diplomats of Russia and NATO discussed the ways to de-escalate the “current tension”, Kommersant reports.
The parties discussed the ways to reduce the current tensions and prevent the dangerous incidents, the officials of the Permanent Mission of Russia to NATO said following open dialogue that took place at the ambassadorial level.
As the alliance representatives specified, the talks were devoted to the situation in Ukraine, military activities in Europe, asymmetric methods of military strategy, as well as mutual briefings on the exercises of each side.
NATO adheres to a consistent approach to Russia. In 2014 its dialogue with Russia was frozen due to Russia’s aggressive activities in Ukraine. At the same time, the channels for political dialogue remain open, and the Russia-NATO Council is an important platform for the meetings, the press service of the alliance stressed.
It is noted that the parties refused to speak to the reporters, limiting themselves to official press releases.
The meeting became the first since the autumn of 2017 and the seventh since the freezing of the relations in 2014.
