Sagintayev says trade sector in Almaty is archaic
Almaty. November 27. KazTAG - Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, akim of Almaty, believes the trade sector in Almaty is archaic.
"Wholesale and retail trade are dominating in the city economy- about 32%, then follow financial operations (10%), and operations with real estate (8.3%). The share of industry, construction, social economy and new industries is small. At the same time trade is mostly traditional and archaic (markets, bazaars and spontaneous trade points). The share of e-commerce is not higher than 3-5%," he said at the Almaty Investment Forum 2019.
In his words, this situation prevents the city from rapid development.
"These are weak points of the economic system of the city," he resumed.
“The ultimate goal of the structural maneuver is to develop export production, expand the presence of Almaty manufacturers in the global high-tech economy. Only in this way, the city will receive a new model of economic growth that is competitive on the world arena," he said.
