Seismologists comment on frequent quakes in South Kazakhstan
Almaty. November 3. KazTAG - The quakes in South Kazakhstan which have been frequent lately do not pose any threat to the residential areas in the epicenter, said Alla Sadykova, head of laboratory of regional seismic institute of the Ministry of Education and Science.
"The quakes which have been frequent in South Kazakhstan do not pose any threat to the settlements in the epicenter and in Almaty. They are not strong, and they will reach Almaty only if 8 points quake hits in the epicenter," she said to KazTAG reporter.
Meanwhile, in her words South Kazakhstan region lacks of equipment to forecast the quakes.
"There are only 5 seismic stations in the southern region of Kazakhstan, it is not enough to forecast the quakes, we don't have sufficient equipment," she said.
"We have good equipment only in seismically dangerous Almaty region, and in fact, not for the whole territory," she said.
