An appropriate statement has been made in Geneva by representatives of WTO members at the session of the committee for WTO protective measures, said an informed source.
"Seven WTO members- Russia, Venezuela, Turley, Norway, Switzerland, India and Singapore- have joined China to express concern and disappointment with the recent decision of the US to impose tariffs for steel and aluminum," said the interlocutor.
In his words, the problem was raised by a representative of China at the session who made "a strong statement, warning that the actions of the US seriously cripple the multilateral trade system". In response, the US representatives "insisted that the tariffs were imposed for national security and are not a protection measure, thus they do not have ground for consultations with the WTO members".
