Snowfall in Nur-Sultan broke 56 years old record - Kazhydromet

Astana. January 29. KazTAG - The snowfall in Nur-Sultan has broken the 56 years record, reports Kazhydromet.
"January of 2020 differed with powerful snowfalls, strong snowstorms, winds and abnormally high temperatures reaching 6 degrees above the norm. The norm is -14 degrees. Also today, the amount of precipitation is 50 mm against 16 mm norm. The three-month norm rainfall has already fallen. Compared to long-term data, such heavy snowfalls were observed 56 years ago in 1964 - 51 mm, ” said Alua Sakhanova, head of the department of short-term weather forecasts of Kazhydromet.
The average monthly temperature and rainfall are expected to be around the norm in February, the rainfall volume will be 15 mm, the temperature -14 degrees.
"Snow and snowstorm are often expected within a month,” Sakhanova added.
“At night on January 29, 1210 units of special equipment and 142 road workers were involved in snow evacuation. Today the municipal services of the city have removed 25.391 cubic meters of snow. In total, 2 568 790 cubic meters of snow have been removed," said the message.
