"The public council of Almaty proposed to resume the speed regime at the speedy avenues (Al-Farabi avenue, Eastern detour road) from 60 kmh to 80 kmh. The representatives of driving community of the Independent car union spoke at the session on August 1. According to a number of opinions, reduction of speed limit causes higher negative effect for the environment, economy and security. The akimat has decided to turn back 80 kmh speed limit down Al-Farabi avenue and Eastern detour road," reads the message.
The akimat said that a number of citizens have spoken for return of the speed regime.
"The akimat has received numerous applications of drivers asking to turn back 80 kmh speed limit at the high-speed lines. The city administration has been under public pressure for 1.5 months. Al Farabi and the Eastern detour road are the main transit roads of the city. The experience of foreign states has shown that speed limit is mostly applicable for central streets. For instance, the speed limit at the detour roads in Spain is 120 kmh, in Moscow- 100 kmh. The analysis of requests on the page of akim, city administration, Open Almaty demonstrates numerous applications to resume the speed regime. Up to date, there are more than 800 applications," said the message.
